Volunteering with the Chimo Crisis Line offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to develop new skills and help people in need. It is a powerful avenue for ongoing personal growth. It is also a great way to gain valuable employment-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Our dedicated team of Crisis Line volunteers provide emotional support, non-violent crisis intervention, and referral information to a diverse population of callers in distress. The Chimo Crisis Line operates 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Training Details
In preparation for this role, Chimo provides over forty hours of training on topics such as:
- Active Listening
- Empathy
- Basic Counselling
- Substance Use
- Mental Health
- Abuse
- Crisis Intervention
Minimum Requirements
- At least 19 years of age
- Good command of spoken English
- Demonstrated ability to be empathetic
- Capacity to be non-judgmental
- Willingness to learn
- Volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week, which includes one shift per month from 8pm-midnight
- A minimum commitment of 100 hours upon completion of training
- Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
