Volunteer with Chimo

Every year, more than 200 volunteers choose to donate their time, energy and skills to Chimo Community Services. We are proud to provide meaningful and challenging volunteer work – and thanks to this work, we are able to support people in our community with specialized, high-quality services.

Chimo is made up of people just like you: people who are looking for a way to give back to their community while developing valuable skills in their personal and professional lives. Our excellent training and on-going development will ensure that your time at Chimo is rewarding.

Crisis Line

Crisis Line volunteers provide emotional support, non-violent crisis intervention, and referral information to callers in distress.

Youth Engagement

Youth Engagement volunteers facilitate workshops in Richmond high schools on a wide range of topics, including: Suicide awareness, stress management, teen relationship abuse prevention, etc.

Outreach & Advocacy

Outreach and Advocacy volunteers assist clients with poverty law, domestic violence and crisis prevention issues.

Application Process

  • Upon receipt of the application form, the Manager will review your application and respond within 7 business days.
  • Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
  • Reference checks will be conducted.
  • Accepted applicants will be provided with instructions regarding the submission of the Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check, payment of the training fee and other pre-training requirements.
  • Successful candidates are required to attend all mandatory training sessions. Evaluation of suitability is conducted throughout the training sessions.
