Stepping Out Program

Workshops for Elementary Students

Senior secondary school students are trained to lead workshops for elementary students to support their transition to secondary school and teenage years.

This peer-to-peer model has shown to work extremely well, and it has received great feedback from students and teachers alike.

The series of 5 workshops aims to help prepare elementary school students for life in high school and offer them skills that will aid in their transition into their teenage years.

The topics covered include

  • Diversity, Understanding, and Inclusivity
  • Basics of Empathy
  • Practicing Empathy and Compassion
  • Kindness, Compassion, and Cyberbullying
  • Accessing Community Resources
In addition to a comprehensive understanding of the content covered in the workshops, benefits to the high school students include increased confidence, exposure to community programs, and leadership and presentation experience.

Furthermore, many students reflect upon their time with Stepping Out as an immensely beneficial experience that will assist them in their personal and professional lives. Some participants of the Stepping Out program eventually volunteer with Chimo after graduation, and some even join our staff team!
